Laramie, WY - July 1, 2008
Two members of Firehole’s leadership team recently visited the United Kingdom
and gained valuable insights into the composite simulation market in Europe.
Jerad Stack, CEO and Emmett Nelson, COO of Firehole Technologies attended a NAFEMS
conference where Nelson gave a presentation to the conference showcasing the technology
behind Firehole’s software.Dr. Andy Hansen - one of Firehole’s
partners at the University of Wyoming - also attended the conference.NAFEMS is the
only worldwide independent association dedicated to computer modeling and simulation
technology.
The team discovered a significant need for Firehole’s simulation technologies
in Europe. “Europe is 10 years ahead of the US in terms of R&D spending
and adoption of composite materials, especially in the automotive and wind energy
industries,” said Stack.“Working with a company like Firehole is especially
attractive to the Europeans today given the weak US Dollar.”
During the week, the team had the opportunity to visit both academic and industry
leaders in composite materials. On their visit to the University of Bristol the
team met with Dr. Ian Bond (pictured above with Stack) about using Firehole’s
modeling capabilities to model the well-publicized “self healing composites”
that Dr. Bond and his team have invented. “Dr. Bond has developed a very exciting
class of materials and we hope our simulation technologies can enable broad use
of self healing composites in the future,” said Stack.
The team also had the opportunity to discuss composite analysis challenges with
a variety of industry professionals like Jaguar/Land Rover, ABB, QinetiQ, as well
as the SIMULIA and ANSYS UK distributors.
While in the UK, Stack and Nelson further publicized Firehole’s strategic
partnering with IDES to provide a composites database of fully qualified materials.
Many of those in attendance at the events spoke about the great need for data and
their eagerness to use the new database.
