Firehole Technologies Assists Bauer Hockey in Optimizing the Composite Stick

Laramie, WY — November 11, 2009 — Bauer Hockey, distinguished maker of performance hockey equipment, is taking new steps to pursue further perfection of the composite hockey stick. Teaming with expert composite analysts from Firehole Technologies, the Bauer Product Development team is using advanced analysis and design technology to improve the performance and feel of the stick.

Since the mid 1990’s, composite materials have revolutionized the game of hockey. Their added stiffness allows more energy to be transferred to the puck, resulting in a more powerful shot. The ability to optimize weight and balance has enabled designers to improve the feel and control of the stick while maintaining the strength and durability.

With models such as the Supreme One95, Bauer has demonstrated innovation in applying the benefits of composite design to the demanding sport. Their Monocomp Technology and state-of-the art manufacturing processes have delivered exceptional improvements in weight, balance and consistency.

"As we continue to improve our product line, our challenges continue to include optimizing stiffness and feel and minimizing weight while providing acceptable durability in a very rough environment," said stick product developer Carolyn Steele.

Initial work has included demonstration of accurate simulation and predictive capabilities and analytical variations of material design and application. Opportunity exists for strategic exploration of other complex aspects of product design & performance.

"We see tremendous opportunity for our advanced composite analysis and simulation to assist Bauer in their goals for the next generation in engineering and design of hockey sticks" said Firehole CEO Jerad Stack. "The Bauer team has been enthusiastic in exploring the advantages in modeling and simulating composite designs in an effort to optimize performance and quality."

"The ability to accurately explore and virtually test more design options will enable Bauer to not only be more innovative, but be more efficient in bringing those innovations to market."
