insight™ for Abaqus
insight™ is Firehole's advanced composite simulation software that is currently available as an add-on application to SIMULIA's Abaqus software.
insight™ is the product of 15+ years of research funded by a diverse set of government agencies and private industry. insight™ gives engineers the ability to analyze complex composite materials in a manner almost identical to that of traditional materials, and provides superior results to other commercially available composite simulation techniques. insight™ enables the design of composite structures without the numerous expensive testing cycles traditionally deployed, allowing for a faster time-to-market and more reliable designs.
insight™ is based on MultiContinuum Technology (MCT), an analysis technology for composite structures that decomposes averaged (continuum) stress and strain fields of a composite material into phase averaged stress and strain fields for the constituents (fiber and matrix). The additional information (continuum stresses and strains in the constituents) provides insight for understanding sources of structural level behavior, but more importantly provides a more fundamental basis for predicting initiation and progression of material damage. insight™ provides accurate and efficient predictive capabilities while at the same time being numerically efficient and simple to use.
